CHICLANA and its golf courses

Iberostar Golf Novo Sancti Petri (31,1 Km).

Opened in 1990, it currently offers two golf courses and represents with its 36 holes one of the largest golf courses on the Costa de la Luz. With its two courses: Mar y Pinos (A) and Centro (B), Iberostar Golf Novo Sancti Petri is a first-class golf destination because it is harmoniously situated next to the Atlantic Ocean and has fifteen four and five-star hotels in its surroundings.

The 6th hole of Mar y Pinos is a natural balcony overlooking the sea and one of the longest white sandy beaches in the province. Severiano Ballesteros' opera prima in Spain is the central course of the Iberostar Golf Novo Sancti Petri. His first design and probably his best. Campano Golf Club (32,7 Km).

The new Campano Golf Club, located in a unique natural area, has an 18-hole par 72 course surrounded by pine and olive trees. It has a driving range, golf academy, clubhouse with restaurant and pro-shop. Golf Campano, formerly San Andrés Golf, the same name of the quiet urbanization where it is located, and which was a small English colony that sought the Costa de la Luz as an ideal place to rest.

It opened in 1985 as a 9-hole course, and for twenty years has remained hidden from golf tourism, known only to local amateurs. La Estancia Golf (32,7 Km).

A course of 18 holes, par 72, of medium difficulty with numerous obstacles: lakes, streams and hills. The easterly and westerly winds make the game a different challenge every day. Benalup Golf & Country Club (35 Km).

Golf El Puerto (69,3 Km).

Designed by Jack Nicklaus, this 18-hole course has hosted the Volvo Masters from 1997 to 2001. Its 18th hole stands out, with a tee-off 40 metres above sea level and its green is surrounded by a lake. The resort has 208 rooms distributed in two buildings and a set of villas. Located next to the Jerez speed circuit, the mecca of motorcycling worldwide, the complex has football facilities designed by Sir Alex Fergusson, emblematic manager of Manchester United.

Sanlúcar Club de Campo de Golf (92,9 Km).

An 18-hole golf course with spectacular views of the mouth of the Guadalquivir River and the vineyards of the Jerez region. Designed by Borja Queipo de Llano, the first nine holes are full of British links features and arid landscapes, while the following holes have an "American" accent in their design. Prince Alfonso de Hohenlohe imagined its layout during a boat trip on the Guadalquivir, the great river of Andalusia, the heart of the Doñana National Park which can be accessed from Sanlúcar de Barrameda.

Alcaidesa Heathland Golf Course (96,9 Km).

Alcaidesa Heathland recovers the landscape of gentle hills and the typical woodland of the area. The prestigious designer Dave Thomas has managed to make this golf course in Cadiz the best setting for all kinds of competitions. The undulating relief of the course together with the almost two kilometres of beach create a spectacular landscape. Inaugurated in 2003, the course extends over 72 hectares on the edge of the sea. It was designed by Cabell B. Robinson and features natural obstacles, trees and lakes, especially those on holes 12, 13 and 14. Its greens are characterised by their generous extension and variety of shapes. With an unforgettable course for golfers, the Reserve is set between two valleys where owls, foxes and partridges have found their ideal habitat.

The San Roque Club (97.8 km).

It boasts both Old and New Courses. Opened in 1990, San Roque Old Course is among the best golf courses in Cadiz in Europe. Originally by Dave Thomas, Severiano Ballesteros redesigned its bunkers. It has tennis and paddle tennis courts and first class equestrian facilities, attractive to beginners and experts alike. Severiano Ballesteros was also involved in the design of the second course, the New Course, which was opened in 2003 and takes advantage of the natural surroundings and has a very technical layout. La Cañada Golf Club (102 Km).

Founded in 1982, La Cañada Golf Club has 18 holes (Par 71), the first 9 designed by David Thomas and the second by Robert Trent Jones Senior. Entertaining fairways that are not too long, fast greens, large trees and spectacular views of the Mediterranean make it an ideal course for sun and nature lovers.

It has a 250-metre practice fairway on horizontal terrain, 2 putting greens and an approach area. The course of fulfilled promises. Numerous Spanish golf stars, such as Álvaro Quirós, have come out of its nursery and its municipal golf school - one of the pioneers in Spain. In 2010 he was awarded the Plaque for Merit in Golf by the Royal Spanish Golf Federation.

Valderrama Golf Club (103 Km).

The Ryder Cup '97 was held here. Number one in the ranking of the best golf courses in Cadiz in continental Europe, host of the Ryder Cup in 1997 and the Volvo Masters from 2002 to 2008, the course has a length of 6,356 metres.

It is a course with wide fairways, but not without difficulty, designed by the American Robert Trent Jones. It is home to numerous "wildlife sanctuaries". Among the species that inhabit it, the Palaearctic otter, catalogued as vulnerable to extinction in Andalusia, stands out. Preferably crepuscular and nocturnal, it finds in Valderrama a quiet space ideal for its conservation. Valderrama is a pioneer in environmental certification.
